When I first started working out with Ron I had gained 25 pounds in college, stopped working out, and completely let my body go. I was previously a high school athlete and had gotten to the point where I couldn’t even run a mile. Not only did Ron push me to do my best during my workouts, he inspired me to believe in myself. I have been training with Ron Davenport off and on for the past couple years… not because I would stop, and get out of shape again, but because I would have to start training for a new hurdle in my life. When I was in high school I boxed and kick-boxed with Ron as my coach. Now I am getting ready for the city police academy; I took about a year off from the gym and lost pretty much all of my strength. After just a few months of training my bench press is now 330, my dead lift is 400 and my squat is 350. I am fully confident that I will ace my physical test for the police, and hopefully in the future the SWAT physical exam.

Shockwave Fitness has been a great training program for me. Classes are challenging but are not intimidating if you don’t know exactly what to do. I’ve now known Ron for over 10 years. When I walked into his kung fu school I was a 20-year-old college student who had gained a freshman 35 lbs, which I had failed to get rid of for 2 years. I was also a very inactive smoker who needed to change his life around.

Within a year of training with Ron, I had quit smoking, was exercising nearly everyday, and had successfully lost the extra 35 lbs. I’m sure you are telling yourself, “what do I care what happened 10 years ago.” Well that was only the beginning. Ron opened my eyes to the incredible world of Chinese martial arts over the next 5 years. It became my preferred workout routine, and even though there were periods of time where life kept me from training personally with Ron, his teaching methods and instruction seared into my brain the lessons I needed to learn to develop in the martial arts.

Now I train with Ron weekly, and since I’m a 31-year-old accountant, he’s again helping me maintain a lifestyle that won’t lead to an early death. I spend hours each day sedentary, staring at a computer with wrists tightening up from typing and crunching numbers. Kung fu keeps me focused, lively, and driven. I’ve learned health and fitness from Ron but also key principles that have allowed me to stay driven professionally.

Someday, in the not so distant future, I’ll be the CFO for the company I work, and I’ll thank Ron for teaching me the drive to make it to the top.
I now have a growing family, and I’m excited to teach my children “Wu Te” (Martial Virtue), that will allow them to excel in this ever-changing and complex world.

Now a 60-year-old single mom, I was looking for a trainer that could relate to both a mom/daughter (59/29 year old team). Well Ron did that. I re-learned how to do sit-ups and jumping jacks the right way and on my own. I was introduced to all kinds of squats, lunges, burpees, thrusts, dead lifts, kick boxing, etc. After 1 ½ years now, my daughter and I have both grown stronger and more confident, and now Ron is working with us on our nutrition. When I first started with Ron, I had lost weight but had zero strength, flexibility, and endurance. On top of that I had a ton of loose skin that made me feel uncomfortable with my new weight loss. Ron knew exactly what I needed and put me on a program that targeted multiple areas I had become weak in or needed improvement. Within the first couple of months, I noticed an instant change in my definition and shape. Even my flexibility was improving. After the first year I was able to maintain my weight loss, cut and define my muscles, gain flexibility in my legs and hips, and my endurance has allowed me to add running to my weekly workout. I have never felt better than I do right now! The thing that impressed me the most about Ron was that he took the time to explain and show me how to properly perform technique allowing me to maximize my workouts without hurting my knee’s or jeopardizing my lower back.
